SUMMARY In the northern region of the state of Guerrero the communities of Quetzalapa and Coahuilotla are located, which are distinguished by the use of the mezcal magueys for several generations. The production of mezcal in these communities contributes significantly to the family economy, in addition to self-consumption agriculture and family livestock and day labor. The fame that mezcal currently has both nationally and internationally, the need for the raw material that is needed to produce it and the demand of the honey and inulin industries and tequila have caused the production volumes of raw material to increase every year. with year. In this sense, Quetzalapa, starting in 2017, considerably increased the cultivated area of maguey mezcalero, going from 20 hectares in 2008 to 45 hectares in 2017, each year it has been observed that the plantations continue to expand, even some producers have substituted crops such as corn and sorghum for maguey mezcalero. In this context, the magueyeros and mezcaleros have developed different strategies to continue selling the maguey and mezcal, one of them is the commercialization through the short channel that has strengthened the social relations between the two study locations, on the other hand they have managed to insert themselves to a global chain through the sale of maguey pineapples with good phytosanitary quality, with an acceptable weight and brix degrees required by the industries, this commercialization is done through intermediaries that serve as a link between the producers and the companies of Jalisco . However, the problems that this form of production has generated is the substitution of important crops for the region such as corn and sorghum, the increase in the use of highly toxic agrochemicals, the introduction of pests and diseases, deforestation, among others.
