ERICK WILLIAMS MENDEZ SANTIAGO

Abstract The phytopathogenic nematode Nacobbus aberrans affects several crops, mainly chili, potato, tomato and beet. It is also considered a difficult nematode to manage due to its polyphagous environment. Conventional control is through the use of chemical nematicides; however, the frequent and indiscriminate use of these products has generated a negative impact on human health and the environment. For this reason, the search for sustainable alternatives such as biological control has increased, which is considered a strategy for replacing chemical nematicides, since it has the advantage of being economical and environmentally safe, does not generate toxic residual effects and is not harmful to beneficial organisms and human beings. Strain 15.2 was initially identified by the rpob gene, sequence analysis showed that it belongs to the genus Serratia and is related to the species S. marcescens and S. nematodiphila, and is probably a new subspecies of Serratia. Rhizobacteria of the genus Serratia have been efficient in reducing populations of phytopathogenic nematodes. Currently, only minimal studies have been conducted on this genus of Serratia bacteria, and based on the information described, the nematocidal activity of Serratia sp. against N. aberrans (J2) was evaluated in vitro and in vivo. Finally, the nematocidal activity of Serratia sp. was evaluated in vivo against N. aberrans in chili plants (Capsicum annuum). With respect to the gall bladder, number of egg masses and eggs produced by N. aberrans, significant differences were found in terms of treatment and control (T1), and similar to T2 (chemical nematicide), having as best treatment T6 at a concentration of 4X109 cells/mL reducing more than 50% of the population and the reproduction rate, which allows us to conclude that Serratia sp. is a good candidate to control gall bladder nematode populations such as N. aberrans in plants in chili.
