Humedales, plantas y comunidades: las hidrófitas y su aprovechamiento en Playa Ventura, Guerrero

Los humedales son ecosistemas que aportan múltiples servicios ambientales y bienes a las poblaciones humanas, desde ríos, lagunas, pantanos, manglares y arrecifes, hasta selvas y palmares inundables. Funcionan como reservorios de biodiversidad, pero también como sistemas de provisión de alimentos, ya que los habitantes locales han aprendido a cultivar, cazar y pescar en ellos. También aprovechan las plantas acuáticas y tolerantes para alimentarse, construir, curarse, conseguir forrajes, elaborar artesanías, entre otros usos. En este trabajo se presenta un estudio de caso sobre la relación que mantienen los habitantes de Playa Ventura, Guerrero, con la laguna Cabeza de Charco; los aportes socioambientales de este humedal, y el aprovechamiento de plantas acuáticas con valor de uso.

Wetlands are ecosystems that provide multiple environmental services and goods to human populations, from rivers, lagoons, marshes, mangroves, and reefs, to flooded forests and palm groves. They function as reservoirs of biodiversity, but also as food provisioning systems, as local people have learned to grow crops, hunt, and fish in them. They also take advantage of the aquatic and tolerant plants to feed themselves, build, heal, obtain fodder, make handicrafts, among other uses. This paper presents a case study on the relationship between the people of Playa Ventura, Guerrero, and the Cabeza de Charco lagoon; the socio-environmental contributions of this wetland, and the use of aquatic plants with use value.
