ABSTRACT Gradually humanity tends to change due to the circumstances that are being experienced. Therefore, the availability and growing demand of energy is a main source for development, but without endangering future generations. Hence the importance of the term energy sustainability. In Mexico, as in the world, they have gradually outlined the concept in innovation in the electrical industry for the development of new materials. Together with the Center for Research in Engineering and Applied Sciences (CIICAp), and the National Institute of Electricity and Clean Energy (INEEL), it was proposed to contribute to the development of electroactive organic polymers with application to supercapacitors (SC's) for energy storage. In the present work, the main components of SC were investigated, such as electrodes, electrolyte, and dielectric material. The conductive polymer poly (3-hexylthiophene) (P3HT) undoped and doped with FeCl3 was used in the electrode, which was synthesized by the Grignard metathesis method (GRIM). Cellulose was used as dielectric material, cellulose nanocrystals (CNC's) were extracted from the paper by means of the synthesis of the sulfuric acid hydrolysis method (H2SO4), to achieve their electrostatic stability and thus increase their relative permeability. In relation to P3HT, molecular weight and polydispersity were analyzed by gel permeation chromatography (GPC) technique, regioregularity by proton nuclear magnetic resonance (1HNMR), thermal stability and decomposition temperature by thermogravimetric analysis (TGA), chemical structure by infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), optical absorption and energy gap by ultraviolet ‑ visible spectroscopy (UV-Vis), morphology by atomic force microscopy (AFM) and scanning electron microscope (SEM), and finally by voltammetry cyclic (VC) the stored charge, the stability and the oxidation and reduction potentials of the polymer were determined, as well as the analysis of the SC's by means of VC, impedance and Nyquist. Regarding the P3HT-RR, it has been reported that the stability and the increase of the regioregularity (RR), favors the specific capacity of the repeated cycles of charges and discharges.
