The cultivation of lilies (Lilium sp.) ranks third in economic importance worldwide after the tulip and gladiolus. Because of its climate, Mexico has great potential for increasing crop farming of this species; however, there is scarse information about their mineral nutrition, which is an important factor for floral stems of quality and optimum performance. The effect of three osmotic pressures (OP) of universal nutrition solution of Steiner (0.24, 0.48 and 0.72 atm) on the production and quality of cut flowers of lilies ‘Marlon’, whose bulbs were grown in pots of eight inches, which contained tezontle (volcanic rock). Control plants were grown in peat moss + perlite (70:30) and watered with universal nutrition solution of Steiner with PO of 0.24 atm. In general, the greatest length of stem, number of leaves, stem diameter, fresh weight of the inflorescence stem fresh weight, dry weight and dry weight inflorescence stem were obtained when the bulbs were watered with Steiner’s universal solution osmotic pressure 0.24 atm, both tezontle + peat moss and perlite (70:30). All variables evaluated met the quality standards, except for stem length, which ranged between 40.4 and 44.8 cm.
