ROGER IVAN MARTINEZ GAMINO

ABSTRACT Aluminum is a material that is considered one of the best options in the industry with almost unlimited uses, it is present in many places, usually in transportation. Thanks to its characteristics, it is an excellent substitute for steel due to the low energy it requires for its manufacture, however, aluminum has the great defect of being a very soft metal, this condition prevents its use in jobs where excessive wear is required, limiting its application. In this work, processes to improve the characteristics of aluminum are reported, one of them is the alloy with another material that modifies the internal structure of the compound, increasing its properties, depending on the material that is added, as well as, as the application to which is destined. For this work we use an aluminum-tin mixture in different concentrations such as 70% Al-30% Sn, 80% Al-20% Sn, 90% Al-10% Sn, each alloy will have different qualities due to the variation in the mixture, that will be able to improve attributes that before did not have. With the application of heat treatments are looking for better tribological properties, through hardening precipitates consisting of two processes that are anneal, as well as aging. This method creates precipitates within the matrix, improving its hardness. By doping boron properties are modified again in concentrations without addition of boron, 500 ppm and 1000 ppm. The objective is to modify the size of the grain by increasing its resistance. It was demonstrated how these processes individually, as well as together change the properties of the material, achieving improvements in aluminum, with the help of these techniques its application can be achieved in jobs with a great demand for wear.
