Abstract Obesity is a multifactorial disease characterized by an imbalance between food intake and energy expenditure, causing an increase in body fat. Metabolic syndrome (MS) has already been observed in adolescents, and has been associated with obesity and insulin resistance. Amylin is a peptide hormone co-secreted with insulin by β cells in response to glucose stimuli. Amylin being a hormone secreted by the pancreas in conjunction with insulin is correlated with obesity and insulin resistance, however the role of amylin in metabolic syndrome is not yet well established but it is known that amyloids Extracellular (IAPP) can induce pancreatic beta cell dysfunction, from the formation of reactive oxygen species, mitochondrial dysfunction and apoptotic mechanisms, which lead to the alteration of glucose homeostasis and lipid metabolism among others. OBJECTIVE: To evaluate the levels of amylin with the clinical and metabolic characteristics of obese children aged 10 to 15 years with and without metabolic syndrome of the hospital of the Morelense child. METHODOLOGY: Cross-descriptive study of cases and controls in which children from 10 to 15 years will be observed, forming 4 study groups, the first consisting of children who meet the characteristics described by the Adult Treatment Panel III (ATP III) to diagnose YE. The second is made up of children with obesity, the third is made up of two risk factors, that is, obesity and overweight plus some risk factor for MS and the fourth for children who do not present any risk factor for MS. Fasting blood samples were taken, which were centrifuged to obtain serum. Laboratory tests were: glucose; triglycerides; cHDL; Total cholesterol, insulin and amylin. RESULTS: The study population was made up of 154 participants between 10 and 15 years who attended an external consultation of the HNAM laboratory from August 2018 to April 2019, distributing them in: control (n = 68), overweight and obesity (n = 25), 2 risk factors of MS (n = 30) and MS (n = 31). Statistical analysis was performed using the student's t-test using SPSS software. Statistically significant differences were found between the 4 groups in the anthropometric parameters, triglyceride concentrations, insulin and HOMA-IR index (p <0.05) and presenting a tendency to increase amylin concentrations according to the association of MS. CONCLUSION: The correlation of high concentrations of amylin with infantile MS is shown, demonstrating in some way the association between amylin and MSes_MX
